    Squirrel Creek Conservation Area
    This wetland habitat is located on the Otonabee River at Wallace Point bridge in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan. Ball fields, a fitness trail, walking trails and beaches with shallow waters are among the recreational features. Great wildlife viewing is also an option.

    Petroglyphs Provincial Park

    Northeast of Peterborough lies the historically significant Petroglyphs Provincial Park. With over 900 images carved into the rock by aboriginals hundreds of years ago, it is the largest site of its kind in Canada. Come for the history, but stay for the lovely canoe and hiking routes.

    Del Crary Park
    Set near the downtown core of Peterborough, Del Crary Park on the shore of Little Lake. A marina, several picnic sites and an outdoor stage are all on site. Del Crary Park hosts the spectacular Peterborough Summer Festival of Lights.

    Mark S. Burnham Provincial Park

    This 43 ha park close to Peterborough is a great day trip for those wishing to walk in the woods or Nordic ski in the winter. Many birds and small animals find it a nice retreat as well.

    Indian River Reptile Zoo

    An exotic array of reptiles resides at this specialized zoo, located 16 kms east of Peterborough. Lizards, crocodiles, snakes, even an Anaconda can be safely observed in the climate-controlled facility. Live demonstrations are held regularly.

    A popular recreation site, Beavermead Park is located on the eastern banks of the Trent-Severn Waterway. Amenities include six soccer fields, picnic tables, a pavilion and a walking trail.

    Riverview Park and Zoo

    With 27 exhibits and over 40 species, this smaller zoo is well worth a visit. Reptiles, primates and other exotic animals all reside on the premises. Other draws include the beautiful location of the zoo - situated on the Otonabee River - and the children's playground.
