The Trent-Severn Waterway is a picturesque 386km (240 miles) connection between the Georgian Bay and Lake Ontario. The route passes through many locks, including two of the highest hydraulic lift locks in the world. Many activities are available on route, including swimming, fishing and sightseeing.

The upper portion runs from Katchiwanooka Lake to Peterborough's Little Lake, and is surrounded by limestone and cedar lined shores. The lower level travels through woody areas to Rice Lake. The Otonobee River is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway system.

Centrally located in Peterborough, Little Lake and Centennial Fountain is the site of the famous summer Festival of Lights at Del Crary Park. Built in 1967, the Centennial Fountain is comprised of a series of jets and coloured lights designed for nighttime light shows.
